A recent boom in buy-to-let here means the resorts boast some of the highest rental rates on the Algarve

Less than 20 kilometres west of Faro airport the central Algarve, and in particular the Golden Triangle,as it is known has an exquisite charm and quality all of its own.

The resorts in this area have something for everyone: for the sports fanatic, there are championship golf courses, horse riding, tennis and watersports; for the more laid-back, there's fabulous stretches of golden sandy beaches, as well as endless unspoilt countryside. The area is also famous for its restaurants and nightclubs.

At Quinta do Lago, the Algarve's most exclusive holiday village, its fabulous golf courses and lavish villas are surrounded by excellent beaches and the nearby Ria Formosa Natural Park with walking trails and inland waterways. Quinta da Lago attracts property investors (especially golfers) in their droves. There has been a recent boom in buy-to-let here and the resort boasts some of the highest rental rates on the Algarve.

Vale do Lobo, nestled beneath imposing red sandstone cliffs is Portugal's largest luxury resort. Designed to offer every facility you may require, the resort boasts everything from supermarkets, art galleries, concert venues and the most magnficient golf courses. In recent years Vale do Lobo has been awarded awards for its high standard of accommodation and sporting facilities, as well as consideration towards the environment.

Along the coast at Vilamoura, the ritzy marina is nestled by designer boutiques and international cafes, but most of all it is popular for its five renowned golf courses. Properties with golf courses and ocean views are particularly desirable here, as are those overlooking the marina. Vilamoura has a huge tourist industry, making property here an excellent investment.

The Central Algarve resorts are popular all year round, attracting holiday-makers in summer and golfers in winter.

A short drive inland and quaint villages with pretty squares and whitewashed churches nestle among the gentle hills of this region. Charming old farmhouses have been restored, offering the property investor the chance to live in these naturally beautiful surroundings. Excellent roads mean you are not far from the sophisticated resorts and yet you can live among the charm of some of these small towns and villages.
